'Rollermania' arrived in Glasgow long before the Bay City boys hit the charts.
This skate-park was opened in Kelvingrove Park in 1951 to replace a dance area which had fallen out of favour. The skate park itself has now been developed for skateboarding. Back then there were sessions for children only, mixed sessions, and adults only in the evening, when young chaps had an excuse to put their arms tightly around girlfriends. You could even pay to get lessons from professional skaters.
The five girls are, Ann Holliday, Valerie Livingston, Carol Marshall, Christine Smith, and Valerie Watt. And they must have been good on their skates, as not one of them has a scabby or grazed knee.
